As if we don't have enough reality competition shows to keep straight on our DISH DVR's, Simon Cowell will be producing another show to search for the next best singer, someone that has "The X Factor"...whatever that may be. As soon as the former 'Idol' judge left the infamous singing competition last year, he let viewers know that he was bringing the hit show The X Factor from overseas to the U.S. I'm sure the American Idol team was looking for ways to enhance the show in order to compete with The X Factor and the loss of its most famed judge for next year's season. The X Factor is not expected to interfere with American Idol ratings on FOX since Idol will begin in January of 2011 and its competitor won't premiere until sometime in the fall next year. What can we expect for the new and improved American Idol season? I'm sure the anticipation is killing you. The lineup up of celebrity judges was already announced a few months back with Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler rounding out the panel alongside Randy Jackson. American Idol's producer, Nigel Lythgoe recently discussed with TV Guide the new changes viewers can expect this season: "The producers have [...] eliminated the round that shrinks the contestants from a group of 24 to 12, instead opting to just go straight to the top 12. 'I didn't think [the top 24] were very good, I was bored with them by the time they got there,' Lythgoe says of previous seasons." Viewers can also expect to see bigger on-stage performances with back-up dancers and vocalists, plus a music video competition so voters can gauge singers' personalities better. If this is a glimpse of what we can expect the U.S. version of The X Factor to be like, then I'm not convinced I'll be tuning in...looks like a convergence of FOX's Glee and America's Got Talent.
