September 11th is a day that no one will forget. Lives were changed that day and now nearly a decade later a massive effort is under way to reshape ground zero into an expansive 16-acre complex, the likes of which has never been seen before. The Discovery Channel documented this historic undertaking alongside the men and women who have dedicated their lives to the rebuilding effort. The new ground zero will be nationally televised and unveiled by President Barack Obama on September 11th, 2011.Along the way the Discovery Channel has provided viewers with daily updates from the construction site. Here is a note from the producer, in which he says that “Producing these six very important hours was intimidating from the get go. It started with a career defining tour of the site with Steven Spielberg and ended with the busiest month of work in my life. “Rising” has been both rewarding and humbling. It has also been the toughest challenge of my career. The 16 sacred acres at Ground Zero are not only where thousands were murdered, they are the site of the most important construction project in the history of the United States. There is both sadness and hope at Ground Zero and this series had to do justice to both. We had to honor the past while celebrating the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan. We had to look back while also looking forward. Finding that balance proved to be the key to the show.”The new world Trade Center may well be the most complex, demanding and detailed construction project ever attempted. The vision behind the construction on the new site requires a place to remember as well as to welcome the future’. It calls for both an open, inviting layout and safety measurements above and beyond the highest standards. This has taken the participation of the brightest architects, engineers, city planners and other experts to create the plan in progress today. Follow the Discovery Channel as they give you an exclusive look inside the rebuilding of Ground Zero and find out what it really takes to complete this historic effect. Don't miss the premiere of 'Rising: The Rebuilding of Ground Zero' tonight on the Discovery Channel starting at 8pm.
