DISH Network Airs ‘A Child’s Garden of Poetry’ in an HBO Family Special

Claire Danes on HBO Family SpecialIn an original HBO Family Special, children and their families everywhere will be inspired by literary art in ‘A Child’s Garden of Poetry,’ set to replay on HBO at 6:30pm on Saturday, April 30 (part of DISH Network programming). For viewers familiar with the Emmy Award®-winning Baby Classical series, ‘A Child’s Garden of Poetry’ is produced by the same gifted team.  A truly enriching educational experience, both children and their parents can enjoy the readings of some of the most famous pieces in poetic history. Many “award-winning performers” will be featured as poetry readers in this weekend’s encore presentation including: Claire Danes, Carrie Fisher, Ziggy Marley, Dave Matthews, Josh Hamilton, Natalie Merchant, Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, Jeffrey Wright and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

In addition to poetic readings from some of today’s brightest stars, viewers will also hear poetry recordings from some of the poets themselves such as Carl Sandburg, E.E. Cummings and Edna St. Vincent Millay. Many of history’s most famous poets will have their literature read to the children in the presentation and to those watching at home, just some of those poets are: Langston Hughes, William Shakespeare, Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, Claude McKay, Robert Louis Stevenson and William Wordsworth. ‘A Child’s Garden of Poetry’ will also showcase children’s thoughts on poetry and also a recital of the poems that they like best.

    I watched this production today and thought it would be great for my students to see. I would like to know if this is availale for sale? If so how would I purchase it? I teach at a maximun security facility for young boys and would like to develope reading throug poetry.

      What a great idea. You might be able to stream ‘A Child’s Garden of Poetry’ online through the new HBO GO, as long as you are a subscriber. I don’t believe it is available for sale just yet, but you can always check back on store.hbo.com.

    I came across A Child’s Garden of Poetry” accidentally…As a teacher of gr 11 English..I was so impressed that I wanted to reocrd it for class viewing…I t was scheduled for JUkly 4th..10:30a.m…at this point I was at our country cottage in the Laurentians..adn a cousin fo mine…aslo a teacher was visiting…I had talked and talked about this program…we were all set to go!!!! and would you believe this???? at 10:28 the power went off…Oh the disappointment…I see it is scheduled for Aug 4th….and shall try again…but WHERE CAN I BUY IT?????? this is an absolute must for students of all age levels and surely..more excellent quality literature can be made available…Cheers to the producers, directors, readers, animators and the children spokes people

      Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I would keep checking HBO’s main website where they have a “shop” section that should have most of their programming available on DVD, once released to the public! I think that would be your best bet, or to contact HBO directly. Thanks for the feedback!
