Oprah fans need not be upset that the queen of daytime television has left her own show, seeing as Winfrey is set to debut OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) on January 1, 2011. Oprah's latest project comes with much anticipation as she wraps up her last season of the "Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2011 and launches OWN Network in just a few short days. OWN will replace Discovery Health on channel 189 for DISH Network subscribers, seeing as the network is a joint venture between Oprah and Discovery Communications.Oprah will still be very much hands on in the production of OWN programming, including a weekly hour-long appearance on her own show "Oprah's Next Chapter" which will air just after her final season of the "Oprah Winfrey Show." Viewers will still be able to invite Oprah into their homes, even if it is only once a week, seeing as she committed to 70 hours of appearances on her network every year. Not only will Oprah appear on a documentary-type series in which cameras followed the talk show host during her last seasosn of the "Oprah Winfrey Show," but she is also working on a project to follow up with former guests she's had on her show in the 25 years of "Oprah Winfrey Show" archives.According to a recent article by Newsday, Oprah's new network is said to be "inspirational, but in a secular, New Age, Oprahesque kind of way." This is probably why Winfrey will host a variety of programming with different groups of viewers in mind. Expected programming on OWN includes a cooking show starring Christina Ferrare, life lessons from celebrities including Simon Cowell on "Oprah's Master Class," a reality show for workaholics called "Kidnapped by the Kids," and a home organizational series with host Peter Walsh. OWN will also be home to a handful of new talk shows from reporter Lisa Ling's "Our America," Oprah's long-time friend Gayle King's morning show and fall talk shows for Rosie O'Donnell and the Judds. Other famous faces you can expect to see on OWN include Sarah Ferguson, Shania Twain, Ryan and Tatum O'Neal and Dr. Laura Berman.Check you DISH Network programming guide for more information on OWN, which replaces Discovery Health as of January 1, 2011.
