Fox is taking a chance on the smash hit ‘X-Factor’ by picking it up for a second season. ‘X-Factor’ is said to be an expensive show and as far as production and ratings have been less than what analysts expected. However the show offers pulls in more than 13 million viewers, when you include the DVR playback. This has overall contributed to the top reality show rating and has boosted Fox’s Wednesday and Thursday nights by 37 and 41 percent, respectively, in the key adult demo. “The X Factor is a monumental success,” said Fox’s president of alternative Mike Darnell. “It’s won every night it’s been on the air, the talent is phenomenal, the live shows are spectacular and picking it up is a complete no-brainer. Simon and his team have done an incredible job with the show.” If you love ‘X-Factor’ and are not a subscriber of DISH Network, you should consider making the switch. As of August 15th, 2011 FOX started to require an online subscription to Hulu Plus or a participating cable or satellite company. Currently DISH Network is the only pay TV provider offering its customers access to the FOX online site. FOX is the first broadcast network to drive cable cutters towards paying for TV. They have followed in the footsteps of ESPN, ESPN3, the WatchESPN app and EPIX who have already required “authentication” from their viewers. So your new favorite shows such as ‘X-Factor’ that is returning for a new season may not be available to you unless you are a subscriber of DISH.
