HBO calls for a season 3 of ‘Boardwalk Empire’. The saga about organized crime, corrupt public officials and one short tempered federal agent in Prohibition era Atlantic City has just gotten the green light for a third season. Created by Terence Winter a producer of the ‘Sopranos’ and adapted from Nelson Johnson’s book of the same title, was nominated for 18 Emmy Awards in its debut season. This included nods for dramatic series and lead actor, Steve Buscemi. Buscemi plays the bootlegger and political powerbroker “Nucky Thompson”. “Following a triumphant first season, I was eager to seewhat Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese and the rest of their stellar team had in store, and they continue to surpass our highest expectations,” said HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo. “The response from the media and our viewers has been extremely gratifying.” This renewal follows in the footsteps of other great shows such as; ‘True Blood’, ‘Game of Thrones’ as well as commitments to new shows. ‘Boardwalk Empire’ is believed to be one of the costliest series that HBO has produced, with a reported budget of $18 million for its pilot episode alone.
