One of the great things about the new whole-home DVR system, DISH Hopper, is its ability to prerecord three hours of Primetime each night. This is a setting that will archive three hours of network programming, every night on the four main stations for a week. The Hopper is now upping the ante by adding something a commercial skipping feature. While the function of fast forwarding through commercials has been around on the DVR for awhile, the hopper has an all new feature. Perfectly named that Auto Hop, this new feature edits out the breaks from those Primetime Anytime recordings starting at 1 am that night. While some of you might say this has been around on other platforms such as Windows Media Center, Sage TV and Myth TV with third party add-ons, Auto Hop requires only the click of one button. “Viewers love to skip commercials,” said Vivek Khemka, vice president of DISH Product Management. “With the Auto Hop capability of the Hopper, watching your favorite shows commercial-free is easier than ever before. It’s a revolutionary development that no other company offers and it’s something that sets Hopper above the competition.” Auto Hop uses patented technology, works with most shows recorded using Primetime Anytime (patent pending). A viewer can watch a show with the Auto Hop option commercial free starting at 1 a.m. ET, after a show has been recorded to the Hopper’s Primetime Anytime library. In addition to that the Hopper’s 30-second “hop forward” option will continue to work for same-day viewing. DISH Network is the third-largest pay-TV provider, offering service to millions of families throughout the nation. The Hopper, DISH Network’s whole-home HD DVR system in mid-March, gives viewers the ability to record six shows and watch other HD content in up to four rooms.
