The popular and unconventional news outlet, the "Onion News Network" - tabbing itself as "America's Finest News Source," is coming to network television on the Independent Film Channel this January through DISH Network satellite television. The addition of the online news series to broadcast television is giving the Independent Film Channel what some are calling "high-brow" as an alternative to Comedy Central for viewers. The "Onion News Network" will air on IFC Friday, January 21 at 10/9c you can even find a countdown to the "Onion News Network's" television launch via their website.William Graham, an executive producer of the "Onion News Network" videos, has said that the IFC addition of the "Onion News Network" is meant to "compete" with hard news channels like CNN and FOX News, not satirically based news shows like "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart or "The Colbert Report" featuring Stephen Colbert. In response to what established news networks may assume, Graham, in true "Onion" fashion said: “It just seems to us, CNN, Fox News and MSNBC are already doing such great comedy out there, without a whole lot of competition.”Graham also discussed the format in which viewers can expect to see the "Onion News Network" on IFC: "now we’re going to give you the whole network, and make it the most authentic, aggressive, snarky, in-your-face news show out there.” At first glance, the set will also look like a spin off of CNN's "The Situation Room." The head writer for the online series of news shows, Carol Kolb, will be working on the broadcast series as well, in which Graham mentioned that they are careful to not "take what we’ve got [the online series] and string it together and call it a TV show."Make sure that IFC is part of your programming package so you don't miss out on this "high-brow" comedy news source by visiting DISH Systems - authorized DISH Network retailer, online or calling 866-989-3474 today!
