Movies are rated many different ways and in many different publications. One list of rated films might have a little-known film as the supposed "best of all time." Another list will rate by box office success. These films have all topped lists at one time or another and have been rated following a variety of criteria. Gone With the Wind Gone With the Wind is a war epic that follows the story of the Civil War through the eyes of one Scarlett O'Hara, who is played by Vivien Leigh. Scarlett is a temperamental, selfish and motivated young woman. The male protagonist is Rhett Butler, a morally ambiguous man. The Shawshank Redemption The Shawshank Redemption is a film based on a short story by Stephen King. It stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, who play Andy and Red respectively. The two men are prisoners at Shawshank Prison. The film chronicles their time together and the mysteries surrounding Andy. The Godfather The Godfather is a crime epic starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, among other big names. It follows the Corleone crime family as Vito (Brando) transforms his son (Pacino) into a vicious crime lord. It was directed by Peter Jackson and has an ensemble cast of then and now well-known names. It is a multi-award winning epic fantasy film that conveys one of the best stories ever told. Casablanca Casablanca is the most popular romance film of all time. It stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman as two lovers caught up in the midst of World War II. Star Wars Star Wars is a science fiction film directed by George Lucas. It spawned the greatest franchise in science fiction history. Citizen Kane Citizen Kane stars Orson Welles, who play the eponymous media magnate whose life is a mystery to those around him. The film is glimpses into his past after the man has died. It's a Wonderful Life It's a Wonderful Life is a Christmas film starring James Stewart. It follows his life from his childhood until he is a man struggling with money problems after a lifetime of helping others with theirs. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two is the culmination of the Harry Potter film franchise. It follows teen wizard Harry Potter into the final battle with his archenemy Voldemort. Avatar Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time. It follows the struggle between an alien race and the humans who have invaded their planet as they humans try to deal with them by putting human consciousness in alien bodies.
