UPDATE: DISH Network and FOX Reach Retrans Deal – Programming Restored

The wait is over, you can resume normal TV viewing habits again without the anxiety over looming blackouts. FOX and DISH Network have reached a middle ground with their retrans deal contract, allowing viewers to rejoice now that their favorite FOX channels are back in time for the weekend, which means no more camping out at bars to watch the games on FOX Sports regional channels. Just two days before the retrans contract between FOX and DISH Network was “set to expire,” your weekend suddenly got a change in plans: watch all of your favorite FOX and DISH Network programming in the comfort of your home – no bar tab needed.

FOX Network threatened to continue the rolling blackouts if an agreement was not reached between the two companies by November 1st – cancelling all FOX programming in addition to the twenty previously cancelled channels for the last month, National Geographic and 19 regional sports channels, all of which have been restored today. Dave Shull, DISH Network’s senior vice president of programming, has been involved in much of the “fair deal” making process: “After prolonged negotiations to reach a fair deal, we’re pleased to enter into a long term agreement with FOX and to assure our customers that they can continue to enjoy these channels. We thank our customers, our retail and channel partners, and our employees for their support through these negotiations, which we believe resulted in a fair deal that reinforces Dish Network’s position as the best value in television.”

The FOX camp had similar remarks to make regarding the end to a very public fee dispute: “I want to thank our partners at Dish Network who worked tirelessly to help us reach a successful conclusion,” said FOX Networks Affiliate Sales and Marketing President, Mike Hopkins. “This agreement provides a strategic partnership between Fox and Dish to bring the best programming to Dish subscribers.”

FOX is still in retrans negotiations with cable TV provider, Cablevision, even after FOX blocked its programming from subscribers as of October 16th. DISH Network subscribers can breathe a sigh of relief as their most watched FOX programming has been restored on the tube now that a carriage deal has been reached. If you’re looking to switch from cable to a satellite television provider visit DISH Network authorized retailer DISH Systems or call 866-989-3474.
